Job Summary
To maintain an optimal state of cleanliness within the residence based on established standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide refreshments for the residents to the home.
- Preparation of breakfast and snacks according to the needs of the residents.
- Ensure Meals received via outside catering are of good quality and are heated as per the requirements.
- Ensure the public areas such as the dining room, day care centre and kitchenettes are clean and stocked appropriately.
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen and food storage areas at all times, in accordance with the appropriate food hygiene regulations.
- To ensure correct storage of all dry and perishable cook chill goods as soon as possible after receipt and checking.
- To ensure that all pots, pans, cooking utensils and service counter containers are cleaned to the required standards and correctly stored after cleaning.
- Support cost-effective stock control systems to minimise waste and ensure these are in place
- Ensure that all regulatory and statutory requirements are met and company policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Address complaints promptly where possible and report them to the Operations Manager
- To ensure the correct, safe storage of cleaning materials.
- Carry out any other reasonable instructions given by the Facility & Care Director
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education
- At least possess a minimum of 5 ‘O’ Levels.
- Valid Food Handling Certificate (Category B minimum).
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and health regulations; ECDL or proof of computer literacy is an asset but not essential.
- Experience:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen, preferably within a care home, hospital, or food service setting.
- Familiarity with dietary needs in geriatric or healthcare environments is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Good communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with kitchen staff, carers and management.
- Basic understanding of food hygiene, safety, and portion control.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Physically fit with the ability to stand for long periods and carry out cleaning duties.
- High attention to cleanliness, time management and organisation.
- Work Environment:
- Must be flexible and available to work varied hours, including mornings, weekends, and public holidays, depending on roster needs.
- Will be working in a care home kitchen, requiring sensitivity and respect when interacting with residents and staff.
